Pelican does not use your personal data and has no infinite-scroll algorithm. There is nothing to optimise for your attention, because attention is not what we sell.
Your data is only yours
Messages, photos, audio, activities, appointments, events and posts are strictly private. Pelican does not access your personal data in any form, and does not store it on its servers.
No infinite scroll
No algorithm decides what you see next. The posts you receive are sent by named people you have authorised. For posts, you decide.
People you know
There are no public posts open to everyone. Only exchanges between people who know each other and have agreed to talk, which keeps anonymous sources out.
One user, several profiles
Family, friends, professional: each profile has its own photo, details and photo panel. Only the people you met with that profile can see it.

Why we are building it
Some large well-known applications run on an economic model built on extracting personal data and maximising screen time. The response being explored elsewhere, particularly in Europe, but not only, is to build our own applications: sovereign, based on ethical principles, and designed to serve their users.
Pelican wants to be a component of this new ecosystem, that can interoperate and share with many other applications, where servers are distributed and can be placed near users and in their own countries. We plan to integrate into the Matrix ecosystem of open and distributed servers.
